What it’s about: 

The History of Heaven and Earth takes a look at what the Bible teaches about the relationships between heaven, earth and hell, between God, man and Satan, and finds that they are very different from popular conceptions.

Our history divides neatly into four major ages:

• The dawn-time Eden, when everything was one and was blessed and there was harmony in all creation;
• The Old Testament era, when blessing had given way to curse, suffering and death, and when Satan, though himself under curse, exercised considerable authority over mankind whose allegiance he had stolen from God;
• The present age of the Church, in which Christ has broken Satan’s hold over men and is establishing his own kingdom rule, while Satan, now banished from heaven, roams the earth venting his wrath on Christ’s followers;
• The end-time heaven, when separation between God and evil will be complete, and Satan and all evil will be consigned to the fires of hell.

The transition between the ages is marked each time by some cataclysmic event that radically changes everything, in heaven as well as on earth. As earth has its history, so also does heaven, and the two are inextricably intertwined. While our focus will be on the supernatural dimension, that can only be understood by us from an earthly perspective. And that is how the Bible presents it.

How to use it:

Although the booklet does not contain study questions, it can nonetheless be used for group or indvidual study. Whichever method you choose, learn to listen for what the Holy Spirit has to tell you- about your beliefs, attitudes and lifestyle. Ask yourself what lessons you should be learning from your readings, so that you can apply them to your own understanding and life as a Christian.
